Head Coach | Tim Grove

Head Coach Tim GroveTim Grove enters his 19th season as the head coach of the Cougars women's basketball team in 2024-25. Along with his role as the women’s basketball head coach, Grove also serves as an associate athletic director for the Cougars.

As the head coach of the Cougars, Coach Grove has led the Cougars to six regular season conference titles (2009-10 through 2014-15), three conference tournament titles (2010-11, 2014-15, and 2023-24) and four NCAA Tournament appearances (2009-10, 2010-11, 2014-15 and 2023-24).

At UMN Morris, Coach Grove boasts an overall record of 279-186 and a conference record of 196-58. A six-time UMAC Coach of the Year, (2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2016-17, and 2023-24), he was named the UMAC Women’s Basketball Coach of the Decade in 2019.

Prior to coming to UMN Morris, Grove was the head boys' basketball coach at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle High School from 2002-06. His head coaching career began with rebuilding a struggling Rainy River Community College (International Falls, Minnesota) men’s basketball program. After inheriting a program that canceled its 1999-2000 season, he led the Voyageurs to the Minnesota Community College Conference State Tournament in 2002.

Grove also served as assistant coach of a very successful men’s basketball program at Mayville State (N.D.). There he had the opportunity to work closely under, then, head coaches Tim Miles in 1996, and older brother Paul Grove (current UMN Morris men’s basketball head coach) in 1998 & ‘99.

He received his Master’s Degree in Kinesiology from the University of North Dakota in 1999, after completing his undergraduate work at Fergus Falls Community College and Mayville State University. A standout athlete, Grove was team captain in basketball and football for the Mayville State Comets. He also excelled off the court and was recognized as an Academic All-American in men’s basketball in 1995, and was Mayville State’s Student of the Year.

A native of Grey Eagle, Minnesota, he is the fourth Grove brother to pass through the doors of the Minnesota Morris Cougar Sports Center, joining Morris’ current head men’s coach Paul Grove, their younger brother, Josh, who played basketball at UMN Morris and graduated in 2005, and older brother Chris who played for the Cougar football team in the early 1990s.

He and his wife, Kristin, live in Morris with their three children, Madelyn, Tyson, and Ian.
